IAN LANE

Ian Lane was raised in Mihkwâpisimosos (Red Deer) and has lived across Canada. He has been the Executive Director of the Northern Ontario Angels (NOA) since 2022. With a diverse career in economic development, he fosters connections between entrepreneurs and angel investors across the Northern Ontario innovation ecosystem.

Ian helped support external research growth and commercialization efforts, particularly in the Bioscience Cluster at the University of Prince Edward Island and then transitioned his services to the Government of PEI through the Ministry of Innovation and Advanced Learning where he worked to attract and retain international talent to high growth Island technology companies. This role allowed Ian to connect with entrepreneurs in strategic innovation sectors to help grow the innovation economy on Epekwitk (PEI).

Ian has resided in N’Swakamok (Sudbury) for the past 10 years and was the Director of Academic and Research Impact at Health Sciences North Research Institute where he helped researchers and clinicians attract funding, including the attraction of over $5M to community-based Indigenous research projects on dementia care. He was the Project Manager for the Northern Ontario Health Innovation Cluster, which bound the research activities of seven health research-centric organizations across the region. This role also fostered connections with industry and local life sciences innovation companies trying to answer the unique healthcare delivery challenges of Northern Ontario while also stimulating capital attraction, and by extension, regional economic development opportunities.

Ian holds a MA from Metropolitan Toronto University in Public Administration. He still enjoys playing music, sports, and the odd sail.
